Do you spend the majority of your time daydreaming about tropical beaches or remote islands? If you’re a globetrotting aficionado, you may be thinking about where you want to travel next. With a whole world out there, it can be difficult to narrow down the options. Luckily, we’ve done the hard work for you! Here are some ideas to give you food for thought.

Lapland, Finland

It’s that happy time of year again when the radio plays festive jingles on repeat, and the aisles of supermarkets are stuffed with gift ideas and indulgent edible treats. Lapland is a destination that is synonymous with Christmas, but this arctic gem is not all about meeting Santa. If you’re after a more adult-friendly break, this is a magical location that offers a broad spectrum of experiences and excursions, as well as the opportunity to see the Northern Lights and enjoy landscapes that are reminiscent of something from the Chronicles of Narnia. During your stay in Lapland, you can learn to drive a snowmobile or cross-country ski, you can go ice fishing, or you can even take a tour of a reindeer farm. You can plod across the blanketed forest floors on a snowshoe safari, or you can sit back and relax while a pack of huskies guides you across the powdery tracks. Visit after Christmas to avoid the crowds and enjoy much lower prices.

Australia

You may think that getting to Australia is mission impossible if you don’t have a huge budget, but you’ll be pleased to hear that is possible to find cheap flights to Sydney. Fares are coming down, and if you can be flexible, you could save a huge amount on airfares. Once you’ve seen the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House and soaked up the rays at Bondi Beach, make your way up the infamous East Coast to explore Fraser Island, the Whitsundays and the lush rainforests surrounding Cairns. Go diving on the Great Barrier Reef, cuddle a koala and enjoy island life. If you have time to explore and get out and about, you can take trains and internal flights to visit Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, Tasmania and the iconic Red Centre.

Costa Rica

Are you looking for a beach break with a difference? Do you have an adventurous side you’re keen to indulge? If so, Costa Rica could be the ideal choice for you. This is emerging as a tourist hotspot, but it is still relatively undiscovered, so this is an excellent time to visit. Costa Rica boasts beautiful beaches, but it’s also home to rainforests, volcanoes and national parks. The diverse geography makes for fascinating, awe-inspiring scenery and this country also houses 5% of the world’s biodiversity, so you can expect to see a wide range of species, including monkeys, parrots, toucans and dolphins on your travels.
