I’d heard lots of good things about Flat Iron and was recommended to go by a work friend, so I suggested it as a place to meet some friends for dinner. They (annoyingly) don’t take bookings – although perhaps this is a sign of their popularity- so you have to go to the door to make a reservation for later that night and they text you when the table is free. To be honest, if you’re happy to go for some drinks before then it’s not a problem. We had about an hour to wait so went to Joe’s Southern Table & Bar close by.

After a few drinks while we waited we got a text – our table was ready! The inside was smaller than I expected and we sat downstairs to eat. The interior is quite simple and there was a cool alcove at the back with a big table in it that was a great feature of the room.

This restaurant is slightly unusual as there’s pretty much just one thing to eat – STEAK. And I can honestly say it’s the best steak I’ve ever eaten! It was cooked to perfection and I didn’t even want any sauces as what it was cooked in gave it such a great, slightly salty flavour. In a bid to be a bit healthy I shared some broccoli and my friend had some chips for his side. They also had a good choice of cocktails for about £5 -£7 (I can recommend the plum and aperol spritz!) and I had some prosecco.

The service was really fast and the waitress friendly, describing everything we needed to know about the food they served. As it got to the end of the meal I began to wonder about pudding – everyone knows that’s the best part of a meal after all- but I hadn’t seen much about it on the menu. Rest assured though, Flat Iron haven’t forgotten something as important as pudding! With your bill you’re each given a token which you can swap for a free ice cream. We had salted caramel flavour and I thought it was a nice touch at the end of the meal- although a bit limited in choice if you’re not an ice cream fan (crazy people).

The food is reasonably priced for central London with the steak costing £10 including a side salad. I’m looking forward to my next visit already!
